The Punjab School Education Department has announced a revision of school hours for government institutions across the province, effective January 19, 2026, continuing until April 15, 2026. The updated schedule aims to streamline academic activities and enhance coordination among schools during the current session.
According to the official notification, single-shift schools will now operate from 10:00 am to 2:15 pm from Monday to Thursday, while Friday classes will conclude earlier, running from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. For double-shift schools, the morning session will be held from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, and the afternoon session will take place from 2:15 pm to 4:45 pm.
The revised schedule also emphasizes professional development for teachers. Their working hours from Monday to Thursday have been extended to include lesson planning, training, and curriculum-related activities. The department has instructed educators to actively participate in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) programs and other training sessions to enhance teaching quality.
Furthermore, teachers’ attendance will now be mandatory on alternate Saturdays, ensuring better monitoring and engagement. Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of Education in the province have been tasked with strictly enforcing the new timings and overseeing their smooth implementation.
To accommodate specific institutional needs, schools have been granted flexibility to adjust their start or end times by up to 15 minutes, applicable separately for boys’ and girls’ schools. Officials stated that these measures are designed to maintain smooth academic operations, provide adequate preparation time for teachers, and promote uniformity across schools during the period.
The department stressed that adherence to the updated timetable is essential for ensuring effective classroom management and academic continuity. Parents and students have been advised to follow the revised schedule to avoid disruptions in school routines.
The Punjab government’s decision comes as part of ongoing efforts to improve educational standards and operational efficiency in public schools, highlighting a balance between academic rigor and professional development for teaching staff.
